One of the world’s most scenic marathons is open for 2014 registration!
The 3rd Patagonian International Marathon in Torres del Paine National Park will feature four different race distances, so 10k speed racers and ultra runners alike can enjoy the course’s unpaved roads. To be held on September 27, 2014, the marathon will follow a route that showcases the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve’s spectacular landscape of snow-capped mountains and glacier-fed lakes.
“We are promoting the stunning natural gems of Patagonian Chile,” says Stjepan Pavicic, the founder and director of the Patagonian International Marathon.
Twenty-two countries are already represented on the registered racers roster, and lucky ones will glimpse some of the area’s unique wildlife of the area against the backdrop of 2,500 meters of mountains of granite and ice.
The event strives to promote conservation and sustainability, as each race entry includes a tree donation to Corre y Reforesta, a campaign that aims to aid in the Park’s reforestation after a fire destroyed always a quarter of its native forest three years ago.
“With the Patagonian International Marathon, we want to continue the tradition of creating phenomenal experiences for runners – both veterans and beginners – as well as bringing sports closer to nature. On the other hand, we are helping in the reforestation of the park and promoting the importance of protecting these place,” Pavicic said.
